This training is meant for Registered Nurses (RNs) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) working in the addiction field who are interested in becoming Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) or a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - Advanced Practice (CARN-AP). The course is intended to support nurses studying for the certification exam by reviewing content covered in the exam and providing additional educational resources relevant to the exam.

As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Gabrielle Simons, MS, RD, LDN, will explain the relationship between substance use disorders (SUD) and nutrition and discuss clinical skills for addressing nutritional deficits in conjunction with SUD care. This training reviews strategies for reducing communicable infectious diseases associated with injection drug use. We will explore testing strategies and linkage to care for those patients with diagnosed blood-borne pathogens; review bleaching/sterilization of injection paraphernalia, serosorting or sequential drug use to prevent infection of uninfected partners; and discuss pharmacological interventions for infection prevention, including nPEP and PrEP.
