As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO series, Patricia Cioe, PhD, will present the didactic entitled, "Counseling patients on safe vaping practices." The didactic will be followed by a related de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO participant along with recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees. Boston Medical Center's (BMC) 12-part Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO® (MA OBAT ECHO®) offers training and support in addiction treatment, with a focus on comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The free, case-based tele-mentoring program is designed to increase the capacity of primary care teams to integrate addiction treatment using a multidisciplinary care model.

Patricia Cioe is Associate Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University, and is affiliated with Brown University's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS). The focus of her research is on reduction of cardiovascular risk in people with HIV (PWH). In her recent work, she developed and pilot tested a tailored invention to improve cardiovascular risk perception and the adoption of heart-healthy behaviors in persons living with HIV, including diet, physical activity, and smoking cessation. Her current work is focused on the development of innovative smoking cessations interventions for people with HIV and examination of the effects of cigarette smoking on HIV clinical outcomes, including biomarkers of monocyte activation and inflammation. Dr. Cioe is also conducting research that examines the use of electronic nicotine delivery systems for harm reduction in PWH who smoke and are unable or unwilling to quit.
