Description

Boston Medical Center's (BMC) 12-part Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO® (MA OBAT ECHO®) offers training and support in addiction treatment, with a focus on comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The free, case-based tele-mentoring program is designed to increase the capacity of primary care teams to integrate addiction treatment using a multidisciplinary care model.

Intended audience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), Physicians (MD/DO), Physician Assistants (PA), Nurses (LPN/RN), Social Workers (LCSW/LICSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors (LADC), Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselors (CADC), Community Health Workers (CHW), Recovery Coaches.

Speakers

Tracy Desruisseaux, LADC-1

Tracy Desruisseaux, MS, LADC I is the Statewide Corrections MAT Director at Spectrum Health Systems Inc. based in Massachusetts. Tracy has been with the agency for over twenty years and has a passion for working with individuals in behavioral health treatment, particularly those with substance use disorder. She has held several professional roles at Spectrum through the years, from the front-line practitioner to outpatient divisional leader, and most recently now at the statewide leadership level. Tracy’s blend of correctional and outpatient opioid treatment experience, helped drive a strategic and successful roll out of OTP services in the state’s correctional system. Tracy holds a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England College and is a Licensed Alcohol/Drug Counselor.

Mahalia Minton, BS

Mahalia Minton, BS is the Recovery Support Navigator Supervisor at Spectrum Health Systems Inc. Mahalia began working with Spectrum in 2017 in the outpatient division. In 2018 she transferred to work with a state grant providing Recovery Support Navigator services to individuals in recovery who were releasing from county jails. In 2020 Mahalia began working for the state prison contract continuing to provide Recovery Support Navigator services for incarcerated individuals. In this contract Mahalia is the Supervisor of the Recovery Support Navigators and has continued to provide re-entry services to releasing patients and managing her team of Recovery Support Navigators. Mahalia received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and is currently working towards her CADC at ADcare Educational Institute and her Master’s degree at the University of Massachusetts Lowell

Objectives

  At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

1. Understand the importance of post incarceration support and care for individuals with OUD.
2. Understand the individual needs of patients with OUD during the post release period.
3. Identify effective strategies for supporting patients during their transition back to the community.

Accreditation information

REQUIREMENTS for credit

1. Register for training
2. Arrive/log into the training no more than 10 minutes after designated start time for program.
3. Identify yourself by typing your full name into the chat and ensuring your zoom name matches that used to register for training (or you cannot be marked on attendance).
4. Be present through the end of the activity (i.e. until the designated end time of training).
5. Complete evaluation within 2 weeks of program completion.

Please note this policy is strictly enforced for accreditation purposes. Participants will forfeit collection of credit and certificates of completion if more than 10 minutes of the training is missed.

Nursing

Boston Medical Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Association Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Participants who complete and return the evaluation and stay for the entire session will be awarded 1.50 contact hours.

Social Work

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.50 general continuing education credits.

LMHC

BMC Grayken Center of Addiction TTA has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7188. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. BMC Grayken Center of Addiction TTA is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. For this program, 1.50 contact hours will be offered to participants who attend the training and complete the evaluation.

LADC/CADC & Recovery Coach

Grayken Center for Addiction TTA is approved to offer LADC/CADCs and recovery coaches who complete this course 1.50 general continuing education credits.
