This FREE full-day course reviews topics covered in the certification exam for addictions nursing and is intended to support nurses preparing to sit for the exam.

Boston Medical Center is sponsoring a FREE exam review course for RNs and NPs working in the addiction field who have an interest in becoming a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) or a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse - Advanced Practice (CARN-AP). The certification exam is open to nurses with at least 2,000 hours experience (equivalent to 1 year full-time) in addiction treatment, and is offered year round at testing sites nationwide. This course is intended to assist nurses in preparing for the exam.

This is an in-person training. There will not be an option to attend via webinar.
Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, with experience treating patients with addiction, who intend to sit for the CARN or CARN-AP exam.
By the end of this certification review program, participants will be able to: Identify the major categories of substances of misuse, their neurobiology, impact, withdrawal effects, and treatments, Discuss the biological, psychosocial, cognitive, and spiritual problems resulting from substance use disorders, Apply nursing process in identifying, planning, assessing and implementing care for patients diagnosed with substance use disorders.

Boston Medical Center grants 7.25 hours to all nurses who attend, complete the evaluation, and complete the post test. Boston Medical Center is approved as a provider of continuing professional development by American Nurses Association, Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
