Advanced training for addiction providers who are waivered to prescribe buprenorphine/naloxone or who are in process of obtaining their waiver. This training will address management of complex conditions including acute and chronic pain, psychiatric co-morbidities, and risk reduction strategies. Alford, MD, MPH (CME Course Director) - Managing Pain with Opioid Analgesics in Patients on Medications for Opioid Use Disorders Mark J. Albanese, MD - Assessment and Treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders Registration will start at 3:30pm and the course will run from 4:00pm-7:00pm Dinner will be served from 5:30 - 6:00 pm This event is free for waivered providers or for those in the process of obtaining their waiver. PLEASE NOTE: After registering, you will receive an e-mail with a link to choose your options for dinner. If we do not receive a response from you regarding your choices, you will automatically be assigned the poultry option. Addiction Providers (MD, PA, NP) who are waivered to prescribe buprenprphine or who intend to become waivered.
After completing this training activity, participants will be able to: 1) Describe the current opioid overdose epidemic in Massachusetts utilizing data from the Massachusetts Public Health Chapter 55 report. 2) Recognize the importance of patient access to medication for addiction treatment (MAT) in Massachusetts. 3) Apply evidence based principles of pain management when caring for patients with an opioid use disorder and co-occurring acute pain. 4) Apply evidence based principles of pain management when caring for patients with an opioid use disorder and co-occurring chronic pain. 5) Implement strategies to identify co-morbid mental illness in patients with opioid use disorders. 6) Recall strategies to treat co-morbid mental illness in patients with opioid use disorders.
