The basics of overdose education and response will be reviewed. The care of patients who have a history of overdose to prevent additional overdose will be discussed. The training will review the efficacy of bystander overdose education and prevention. Novel strategies including test strips, sedation monitoring centers, safe consumption sites, and safe supply will be discussed along with the legality in the US. The pharmacology of nasal naloxone and the physiological implications of opioid blockade will be reviewed. Harm reduction strategies related to polysubstance use and when “the Narcan is just not enough†will be explored.

This training will discuss strategies to identify patients experiencing a stimulant overdose and will focus on particular strategies for the care of a patient experiencing an acute psychosis secondary to psychostimulant ingestion. The warning signs of psychostimulant overdose and strategies to mitigate the harm associated with the patient’s psychotic state will be discussed. De-escalation of patients experiencing psychosis secondary to psychostimulant intoxication in the clinic and community setting will be reviewed.

This training will focus on the sexual health related risks associated with substance use disorder. The impact of survival sex and sex work on the well-being of both men and women and strategies to reduce violence and infections in this population will be explored. The training will review pharmacological interventions for HIV prevention including nPEP, PrEP, and the concept of U=U. Participants will be able to define STI testing strategies for the SUD provider and treatment considerations for patients on medication for addiction treatment.
