Topic: Alcohol
Many individuals experiencing mild alcohol withdrawal syndrome can be safely and successfully managed in the outpatient setting, allowing less interruption to one’s professional, family, and social obligations. This training will provide an overview of alcohol withdrawal assessment and management in an outpatient setting. Participants will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and appropriate candidates for outpatient withdrawal management. Validated tools to assess alcohol withdrawal will be reviewed and evidence-based medication management for outpatient alcohol withdrawal will be discussed.

This training provides healthcare providers with advanced knowledge and practical skills to deliver high-quality, patient-centered treatment plans for individuals on buprenorphine for opioid use disorder (OUD). Participants will enhance their confidence in buprenorphine initiation through real-world case studies, exploring low-barrier models of care to improve access for individuals with OUD and strategies to reduce the risk of precipitated withdrawal.

Topic: Buprenorphine
This training is designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills in initiating buprenorphine treatment for opioid use disorder in the outpatient setting in the context of the widespread presence of illicitly manufactured fentanyl. We explore how the potency and prevalence of fentanyl complicates the initiation phase of buprenorphine treatment, leading to potential clinical challenges such as precipitated withdrawal. We suggest participating in the next training in the series, Buprenorphine 201, upon completing Buprenorphine 101.

This training will cover the impact of hyperalgesia and cross tolerance on chronic pain among patients with opioid dependence and/or who are on medications for opioid use disorder. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for chronic pain management will be discussed. Participants will acquire tools for identifying pain severity and evaluating opioid use disorder in patients on chronic opioid therapy.

Additionally, we will examine evidence-based interventions to treat alcohol use disorders and support individuals in their recovery.
