As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Alexis Gallardo Foreman, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC, TTS & Cornelia Wakeman, NP, will describe current patterns, health risks, and drivers of e-cigarette use among adults, including co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions. They will also apply evidence-based, patient-centered strategies to assess readiness, counsel adults on vaping cessation or reduction, and integrate pharmacologic and behavioral supports into routine clinical care. The didactic session will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant, along with recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Topic: ECHO
As part of the twice-monthly SUD Care Continuum ECHO® series, Elisabeth Woodhams, MD, MSc, will review key sexual and reproductive health risks and disparities experienced by people with substance use disorder, including the impact of substance use on consent, STI risk, and unintended pregnancy and apply trauma-informed, patient-centered approaches to sexual health counseling for people with SUD, including discussing contraception options such as long-acting reversible contraception (LARC). The didactic will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant and recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.

Topic: Alcohol
Many individuals experiencing mild alcohol withdrawal syndrome can be safely and successfully managed in the outpatient setting, allowing less interruption to one’s professional, family, and social obligations. This training will provide an overview of alcohol withdrawal assessment and management in an outpatient setting. Participants will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and appropriate candidates for outpatient withdrawal management. Validated tools to assess alcohol withdrawal will be reviewed and evidence-based medication management for outpatient alcohol withdrawal will be discussed.

As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Hallie Rozansky, MD, will describe the clinical rationale and key guidelines for co-prescribing PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV) and medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD). She will also demonstrate basic skills for integrating PrEP assessment and prescribing into MOUD visits to improve comprehensive care for patients at risk of HIV. The didactic session will be followed by a de-identified patient case presentation from an ECHO® participant, along with recommendations from the panel of experts and attendees.
