As part of the twice-monthly MA OBAT ECHO® series, Allyson Pinkhover, MPH, CHO, CPhT, will identify harm reduction strategies that can be used at community health centers (CHCs), discuss the role of harm reduction in addressing health disparities, examine the integration of harm reduction into primary care services, explore legal considerations to harm reduction services, and discuss how to develop strategies for funding harm reduction work in CHCs. Boston Medical Center's (BMC) 12-part Massachusetts Office Based Addiction Treatment ECHO® (MA OBAT ECHO®) offers training and support in addiction treatment, with a focus on comprehensive care for patients with substance use disorders (SUDs). The free, case-based tele-mentoring program is designed to increase the capacity of primary care teams to integrate addiction treatment using a multidisciplinary care model.

David Jernigan, PhDDr. Jernigan is best known for his action-research approach to the issue of alcohol advertising, marketing, and promotion and its influence on young people. His work has led to better advertising regulations and a clearer understanding of the evolving structure of the alcohol industry. His work is policy relevant and scientifically rigorous. Dr. Jernigan has been very active in translating research findings into policy and practice. He testifies regularly at city, state, and national levels around alcohol advertising and youth, alcohol availability, and taxation. He also trains advocates around the world using the best evidence.

Emily Hurstak, MD, MPH, MAS (she/her)Dr. Emily Hurstak is the medical director of Boston Medical Center's Office Based Addiction Clinic (OBAT) and Grayken Center for Addiction TTA's SUD Care Continuum ECHO®. She is a primary care physician and addiction medicine specialist who provides primary medical care to patients at Boston Medical Center's General Internal Medicine and OBAT clinics. Dr. Hurstak has focused her work and research on improving the understanding and care of patients with co-morbid substance use disorders and chronic pain as well as studying health literacy and health communication techniques to improve care of vulnerable patients. She is board certified in internal medicine and addiction medicine and is trained in medical acupuncture. Dr. Hurstak received her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Columbia University and completed her residency, chief residency, and fellowship at the University of California San Francisco.
